Good Things about Movie Reviews

29th July, 2010

Those who love and respect the Hollywood, are impatiently waiting for Hollywood’s latest  upcoming movies so that they can spend their quality time by watching them with their family and friends. The internet is at present the greatest source of entertainment, offering a rich resource for your average user. During the earlier stages of the internet, audio songs, music videos and trailers of movies were the only available entertainment options on the internet. Until recent times, movies were available on the internet only for online viewing.

Watching movies is a social experience. We watch movies with friends, families, colleagues, and with anyone else that is good company. So, to enhance this experience, and to make sure that we get the most pleasurable experience from watching movies, we do things to ensure that we go to only the best movies, or those that we tend to enjoy tremendously. And so, the process of choosing movies begins, but where does it start? Everyone used to get all the information from traditional media like magazines or the newspapers. But with the internet, people are searching for movie reviews everywhere.

Now, they can read what an actual movie critic has to say, reading all the reviewers’ opinions, scouring through tons of feedback by fans who actually watched the movies, and the best part, they can preview the movies by watching online movie trailers. The Internet has quickly become the most important medium for fans to source for information and communicate. So now, in a very virtual way, we can all share movie experiences with someone halfway across the globe. We see some comments on a movie review site and we respond to those comments.

The Deliberate Stranger Movie Review

25th July, 2010

Deliberate Stranger

Movie Details :

Starring :

Mark Harmon as Ted Bundy

Frederic Forrest as Detective Bob Keppel

Ben Master as Detective Mike Fisher

Runtime – 185 mins

Movie Review

The Deliberate Stranger is one of the earlier movies dipicting the life and crimes of one of America’s most notorious serial killers, Ted Bundy. The movie is based on the book of the same name written by friend and colleague of Bundy’s, Richard Larson.

Larson’s perspective on the Ted Bundy story leaves out a lot of what made Bundy the monster that he was ie. his mental state and focuses more on the events, time lines and of course the outward persona of Bundy. Not suprising since Larson was one of Bundy’s supporters when he was accused of the brutal murders of all those women, it is easy to see why Larson drew attention to Bundy’s apparent all-American boy image in this movie.

This is where Mark Harmon comes in to the picture. The decision to cast the cute, wholesome looking Harmon in the starring role was an inspired choice. Harmon gives a convincing performance and is credible as the charming confident Ted and also as the psychotic killer Ted.

As mentioned before this movie does not get into the mindset of Bundy, nor is it graphic in nature when dipicting the murders, for this reason Harmon is the ideal choice of actor for the part as we see only what those around Ted at the time saw, a charming, handsome, polite man who would be the last person you would believe to be a killer.

Hotel Rwanda Movie Review

23rd July, 2010

Having seen the film twice, it is a positive statement about the book to state that I did not make the association until almost two thirds of the way through.

Hotel Rwanda Movie Review

On the other hand, much of the material I did not associate with the film verged on the prurient or scatological. Much of what rose above this level eventually depressed, because it addressed like an obsession the detail, the consequences and the pathology of AIDS. The doubly unfortunate truth about the last two sentences is that the book probably, in its excesses, under-states the reality.

An enduring memory is a character, a visitor to Rwanda, seeing what he takes to be a cultivated hillside and then praising effusively the presence of agriculture in the centre of town A moment later he is introduced to reality by his host who confirmed that the excavation was a cemetery to cultivate the profusions of corpses produced by AIDS. The scenes of genocide that follow can only match the horror of what went before.

At the core of the book is the relationship between Valcourt and Best Hotel Finder Click hereGentille. He is Canadian, a journalist film-maker, who seems at home in Rwanda’s tribulations. Gentile is a woman of virtue, a virtue she plies with ease. She looks like a Tutsi, but is a Hutu.

Movie Review – “Last Chance Harvey” Gets Quality Acting, But Suffers From Writer/Director’s Effort

21st July, 2010

Last Chance Harvey – 2 Stars – Average

Is it possible for your two leads to be nominated for Best Actor and Best Actress Golden Globe Awards and yet your magnum opus is average at best?

Yes it is, especially if your leads are Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson, and the writer/director of the film is Joel Hopkins. Then you have the makings of “Last Chance Harvey”. This film is far too dark and depressing to be a romantic comedy, it feeds off of more negative than positive energy.

Last Chance Harvey is no misnomer. Harvey Shine (Dustin Hoffman) is a preoccupied person who is not comfortable to be around and hardly likeable. Most of his time is spent bemoaning his condition in life. His wife dumped him years ago. His dream job was to be a jazz pianist, but he settled for a job as jingle writer for a Manhattan advertising firm, which is about to dump him for younger talent.

His wife remarried, and his daughter is closer to her step-dad than him. Harvey has made a career of being absent by choice. Now he travels to London for his daughter’s wedding and gets a very cold reception from his ex and everyone who counts. He becomes a disaster at the rehearsal dinner, can’t wait to leave London, and informs his daughter that he will not be attending the wedding reception.
