Surrogates Is Good For Conspiracy Fans
27th April, 2010There are some movies that have poor concepts but somehow end up being great. There are other movies that have terrific concepts but end up falling flat on their faces. Surrogates falls somewhere in the middle. The concept was very good yet the result was mediocrity.
I was scanning through the movie options on Direct tv the other night and spotted Surrogates. I have to admit, the only reason I selected it was because of the title. It is kind of catchy, especially for one word. I guess it’s true about covers of books selling. The same can go for movie titles.
Bruce Willis is the protagonist in Surrogates, and as usual, he does it well. He has a special talent for action movies, that’s for sure. I think it’s because there’s something about his demeanor that makes him easy to root for. If you like government conspiracy-type movies, or conspiracy movies of any kind that involve action and suspense, then Surrogates is worth watching. There were a lot of twists and turns, one that might really knock your socks off. That said, this movie had so much more potential. They fell way short on the whole rebellion aspect. The rebellion movement seemed too small and unorganized to buy into.
If you don’t already know, Surrogates is based on everyone being perfect because they’re living through fake bodies while really sitting at home as if playing a video game. It’s as though the whole world has become fake yet people think it’s the greatest thing in the world. What’s strange about this movie is that I wish it was available as a book. It would be one heck of a read. This is the opposite of most situations, where you wish a book would be made into a movie.
In case I haven’t stressed it enough, the concept is better than the movie, but it’s still entertaining.
